GWAR Cover “Pink Pony Club”
A.V. Undercover, the A.V. Club’s series in which bands were invited to be filmed performing a cover chosen from an ever-dwindling list of pre-selected songs, is one of the great blog-era video franchises. It went away in the 2010s, but new ownership brought it back with a vengeance in 2024, starting with GWAR covering “I’m Just Ken,” Ryan Gosling’s power ballad from the Barbie soundtrack.

Cali indiepop greats Rocketship are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their 1996 debut album A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness by giving it its first vinyl pressing since the original release. This is much needed as original copies fetch for over $200 in the secondary market. It’s out March 20 via Slumberland and you can preorder it here.
The album, which mixed sugary melodies and jangly guitars with shoegaze atmosphere and krautrock drone, sounds pretty fresh in 2026 and you can listen below.
In further celebration, Rocketship will embark on the A Certain Smile, A Certain Sadness 30th Anniversary Tour in April, hitting San Francisco, the band’s hometown of Sacramento, Los Angeles, Seattle and Portland. Opening along the way are a bunch of other Slumberland bands, including The Umbrellas, Tony Molina, Kids on a Crime Spree, Chime School, and more. Dates are listed below.
Rocketship last played NYC in 2014. Let’s have some East Coast dates too!

BTS Announce New Album ARIRANG And World Tour
BTS are back. Almost four years ago, the K-pop heavyweights went on hiatus in order to fulfill their mandatory South Korean military service. Last summer, they announced that they were back to work and getting ready to release a new album in the first half of 2026. Today, the news is official: ARIRANG, billed as BTS’ fifth studio album (though it’s more like their tenth), is coming on March 20. It’s their first album since 2020. We don’t know much else about it just yet except it has 14 songs and that’s the cover art above.

CLAPTONE, HANNAH BOLEYN – BLACK & GOLD
This pair is hard to beat and the result is one of the best (so far) new releases in dance music this week.Claptone needs no introduction a regular visitor on my blog.On the other hand Hannah Boleyn keeps rising with one great tune after another. With multiple collaborations with names like John Summit, Billie Gillies, D.O.D and one of the best cover version last year on “Teardrops” i was expecting “Black & Gold” being just as good as it is.This is propably going to be overlooked by the charts but do a favour in your playlist and add it.Both radio friendly and mainstream is a combination you can’t ignore..

Harry Styles Announces New Album Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally
Big-deal pop stars love announcing their returns and unveiling their new albums at the beginning of the year, and now we’ve got another one. Vaguely feline clothes-horse heartthrob Harry Styles is coming back on March 6 with a new LP called Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally, a frankly very irritating title. (That’s six words, one period, and one comma. I am not looking forward to typing it a bunch of times.)

Fishbone are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their classic debut album In Your Face this year, and they’ll perform it in full (along with a second set of favorites) on a spring tour. Shows begin on April 9 in San Francisco and wrap up on May 9 in Pomona. See all dates below.
There’s an NYC show at Brooklyn Bowl on April 25, and a Garwood, NJ show a couple nights earlier at Crossroads on April 23. Tickets to all dates go on sale Friday, January 16 at 12 PM local, with various presales starting today (1/15) at 1 PM local.
There’s also a new remastered reissue of In Your Face on the way, with a second disc of Fishbone songs re-recorded by different artists to be announced. It’s available for pre-order now.
Members of Fishbone were involved in public disputes regarding lineup changes and the rights to the band’s name in 2024, and the current lineup features Angelo Moore (vocals, saxophones), Christopher Dowd (keyboards, trombone, vocals), James Jones (bass), Hassan Hurd (drums), John “JS” Williams II (trumpet, vocals), and Tracey “Spacey T” Singleton (guitar). That lineup is also working on a new album, currently expected in early summer, and following last year’s Stockholm Syndrome. Stay tuned.

Wilco guitarist Nels Cline turned 70 last week, and he’s announced a special Brooklyn show to celebrate with two fellow guitarists who also celebrate that milestone birthday this year, Lee Ranaldo and Jimmy Rip. It happens on February 25 at Pioneer Works, and the lineup also includes Eucademix (aka Yuka Honda). Tickets are on sale now.
“Turning 70 years old seems like kind of a big deal, I must admit,” Nels writes. “When I realized that two cherished New York comrades in the guitar world were also turning 70 within weeks of my crossing over that age threshold, it occurred to me that some sort of sonic ritual performance might be in order. Hence ’70 IS THE NEW 70.’ The intent is to create an immersive, compelling 70-minute ambient exploration that reflects this experience in all its wonder, exhilaration, dread, astonishment, and creeping surreality. My guitar pals Lee Ranaldo and Jimmy Rip will join me in this endeavor. Lee will have turned 70 by the time we perform our experiment on February 25th, and Jimmy’s birthday will be imminent. I will map out a loose structure after discussing our impressions and shared feelings about this possibly meaningless number/age that feels almost monumental to me. Why ’70 is the new 70′? Because this is new! We have not been here before (unless in some unremembered past life or something). We’re still here! So let’s celebrate, contemplate, and potentially elevate together. And move forward.”
Cline recently performed as part of the Stuart Bogie-led reinterpretation of Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew that closed out this year’s NYC Winter Jazzfest, and he has shows coming up as part of Wilco and his Consentrik Quartet, as well as with Grahame Lesh and Josh Medeski, Stanton Moore, and Skerik. Djo Gets Big Stranger Things Streaming Bump, Denies There’s A Secret Ninth Episode Because Finale Was So Bad
Hunky actor Joe Keery was a member of the band Post Animal when he was cast as Steve Harrington on Stranger Things in 2016. Since 2019, Keery has been making music under the name Djo. He released his song “End Of Beginning” in 2022, and it became a viral hit and reached the Hot 100 two years later. (My kids informed me that the track, released independently on AWAL, was pretty much the only song on TikTok during the Universal ban.) In the wake of the Stranger Things finale, “End Of Beginning” is suddenly more popular than ever, even though it wasn’t actually featured in the episode.
